Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30 January 1948 at age 78 in the compound of The Birla House (now Gandhi Smriti), a large mansion in central New Delhi.

It was quite moving to walk by the path he had taken towards his prayer meeting before he was assisted by a Hindi extremist.

The Lotus temple is a Bahai house of worship which was privately built in 1986. It is shaped like a lotus flower and is quite spectacular.

One of the highlights of these travellers‘ trip was the visit to a Sikh Temple which feeds the community. With no questions asked and no proof of need required, all are welcome for the many meal settings scheduled throughout each and every day.

Volunteers cook, volunteers manage the crowds of people and volunteers clean up. All that is asked is that each meal recipient commits to finishing their plate of food.

Ms X got talking to a volunteer cook, only to discover that she was an Australian on holiday, who was giving 2 weeks of her time to contribute to the operations. She was a nurse in the Footscray Hospital, which’s just up the street and around the corner from Ms X‘s home!
