Now if you like your fish and you may be even known to have meatless Monday each week, then go and put down roots in Homer, Alaska. Why?

1. Well it just happens to be the Halibut Capital of the world. Wait 5 minutes and someone in Homer will definitely remind you.

The Homer Whale.

2. For a visit to Homer, you first have to have a look around the Pratt Museum.

This whale had died so the townsfolk buried it for 3 years to allow bacteria to clean the bones. They then reassembled it in the museum which was a painstaking but remarkable achievement.

The mighty grizzly serves as a reminder that Homer is bear country!

3. Homer also makes some pretty good coffee and great milkshakes. It currently stands as the coffee capital of south east Alaska thanks to the Captain’s coffee roasting and bakery.

4. Homer also has black rabbits that eventually turn white. Now that’s a pretty special trick. They aren’t shy either.

5. Homer also has a spit, a long piece of reclaimed land attached, that boasts shops, art galleries, eateries, seafood and a great pub.

6. And if you still aren’t convinced to visit, it also boasts some Street Libraries. Ms X counted 4. Not bad at all for good old Homer.
